Turner Swim at Delta Marriott Worsley Park Hotel and Country Club
Adult only one-to-one swimming lessons in a 20 metre hotel pool at Worsley, about fifteen minutes from central Manchester, with your own lane and kit included.
Who it suits
Adults across Greater Manchester who want an hour to themselves in the water, especially non swimmers and anyone training towards a triathlon.
Why it stands out
- Pool is 20 metres long and 1.2 metres deep the whole way, so you can stand up anywhere in it
- You get your own lane, and a towel, goggles and hat are included in the lesson price
- Turner Swim have taught at this hotel since 2019, with two instructors, Katie and Rachel
- Buying ten weekday lessons at once brings the hourly rate down by roughly a tenner
Our verdict
A constant 1.2 metre depth is the quiet selling point here, because a nervous adult never has to deal with water over their head until they choose to. The price is fifteen pounds an hour lower than Turner Swim's London venues for the same hour and the same format. Do not book if you need evening or weekend slots on a package, since the discounted Manchester bundles are weekday only, and do not book for a child, because this school teaches adults exclusively.
What it is
Turner Swim have rented pool time at the Delta Marriott at Worsley Park since 2019 and run the same format there as in London: one adult, one instructor, one hour. Katie and Rachel teach here. Katie swam internationally and was training for an Olympic qualifying time in 2021, and Rachel swam competitively as a child before a career as an optician. Neither of those facts teaches you to swim, but they tell you the school is not staffing itself with whoever holds a level two badge.
Who should book
Adults in Salford, Manchester and the western suburbs who have decided group lessons are not going to work. The pool suits two groups particularly well. Nervous beginners get 1.2 metres of depth everywhere, so there is no deep end to worry about. Triathletes get a 20 metre lane to themselves, which is enough to work on turns and pacing without dodging anyone.
What stands out
Almost nothing is extra. You bring a costume. The hotel towel, goggles to borrow, a hat and the rest of the kit come with the session. Parking is at a country club rather than a city centre pool, which for anyone driving from Bolton or Wigan is a real saving in both time and car park charges. Bookings open four weeks out and close 24 hours before, all handled online, so you are not phoning a reception desk.
The verdict
At seventy four pounds for a single hour this is the cheapest of Turner Swim’s three cities, and the ten lesson weekday package pulls it down further. Two things to check before you pay. The Manchester bundles are restricted to Monday to Friday, so an evening or weekend habit costs full price every time. And the venue page currently quotes a starting rate that does not match the figures on Turner Swim’s own price list, so confirm the number at checkout rather than trusting the description.
